Online Clinic — telehealth

Online consultations with a cardiovascular dietitian.

Video or phone appointments with Dr Jenni Suen — Accredited Practising Dietitian, PhD in nutrition and vascular disease — from anywhere in Australia. No referral is needed to book a private consultation, and Medicare rebates are available with an eligible GP care plan.

Health funds and referrers usually call this telehealth. It is the same appointment — we call it the Online Clinic.

Why online

Specialised vascular dietetic care, without the travel.

Cardiovascular dietetics is a narrow field, and there are few dietitians working in it. An online consultation takes distance out of the equation — the same care, from wherever you are, on your computer or your phone.

  • Regional and rural Australia

No driving hours each way for a 45-minute appointment, and no waiting for someone local to become available.

  • Recovering, or managing fatigue

Attend from your own lounge room on a day when leaving the house is more than you want to take on.

  • Working around a job

No travel either side of the appointment, so it costs you the consultation and nothing more.

  • Anywhere outside Adelaide

The in-person clinic runs one day a week in Adelaide. The Online Clinic runs Australia-wide.

Online appointments cover prevention, management and maintenance. Peri-operative preparation is offered in person at the Adelaide clinic — see both options.

Costs and rebates

What you pay, and what you can claim back.

Fees are charged on the day of your consultation by Visa, Mastercard or American Express, debit or credit; a small card processing fee applies.

  • Medicare

With an eligible GP Chronic Disease Management plan you pay the full fee and receive a rebate afterwards. Online dietetic consultations are Medicare item 93000; in-person appointments at the Adelaide clinic are item 10954. Ask your GP whether you are eligible, and mention that you would like a referral to a dietitian.

  • Private health insurance

Cover for dietetics depends on your policy and level of extras. Most funds list online consultations under telehealth, and rebates vary between insurers — it is best to check with your provider directly.

  • No referral needed

New clients are welcome and no referral is required for a private paying consultation. If you do have one from your doctor it is helpful to share it, and it may be required to claim a Medicare rebate.
